Relieve Painful Bruxism Symptoms with a Custom-Made Nightguard

Do you wake up in the morning with a sore jaw, as if you’d been grinding your teeth all night? Maybe you have been! Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a real dental condition and often occurs unconsciously, while you’re asleep.

What causes bruxism can vary, but often it’s a result of stress or a misaligned bite. Left untreated, bruxism can open the door for serious dental trouble, in addition to insomnia, eating disorders, and depression.

But bruxism isn’t something you just have to live with. At Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill dental office, patients can find relief from bruxism with a nightguard.

What Is A Nightguard?

A nightguard is an acrylic mouthpiece that fits between your top and bottom teeth and stops them from grinding together. What’s more, your nightguard will be custom-made just for your smile, so that fits comfortably over your smile.

Getting set up with one is easy. Once Dr. Polansky has confirmed that a nightguard is right for you, we’ll take an impression of your smile and send it to our lab. There, your nightguard will carefully crafted by their expert team before being shipped back to our Cherry Hill office for you to try on and take home.

In addition to treating your bruxism with a nightguard, Dr. Polansky can also recommend relaxation techniques to help you manage stress.

Want to learn more about treating bruxism with a custom-made nightguard? Call Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill dental office today. We serve patients from Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and beyond.

Advanced Oral Cancer Screenings with VELscope

We’re at the tail end of April now, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to let you know about Oral Cancer Awareness Month. The primary purpose of Oral cancer Awareness Month is, of course, to educate patients about oral cancer. Every year, oral cancer claims more lives than Hodgkin’s disease and a host of cancers that includes brain, liver, kidney, ovarian, and cervical cancer.

But just as important as raising awareness is encouraging patients to make oral cancer screenings a regular part of their dental care. Different doctors use different methods for screening patients, but at Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill dental office, we’re using a tool that stands out from the rest—it’s called VELscope.

VELscope is a fluorescence-based system that makes it possible for Dr. Polansky to diagnose oral cancer during its earliest stages, when it’s easier to treat. A screening takes just seconds to complete and works by illuminating abnormal cells so that they stand out from the rest of your smile.

Because these spots may not even be visible to the naked eye, an oral cancer screening with VELscope has a definite advantage over just a simple oral exam. If Dr. Polansky finds anything, we can begin planning your treatment immediately. In its early stages, oral cancer has an 80 to 90% cure rate.

Want to know more about how Dr. Polansky is using VELscope to screen patients from Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and beyond for oral cancer? Call us today!

Dr. Polansky Offers Two Great Veneer Options to Choose From

Are you curious about porcelain veneers? Then Dr. Polansky would love to talk with you. Our Cherry Hill dental office offers two great porcelain veneers options for patients to consider: traditional porcelain veneers and minimal-prep porcelain veneers. With both, it’s possible for Dr. Polansky to transform a chipped, cracked, or stained smile into one that dazzles.

But First, What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultrathin shells of porcelain that fit over the front of front teeth, masking any noticeable imperfections. They’re designed by Dr. Polansky to perfectly complement your appearance and are made by the dental lab we’ve partnered with, Niche Dental Studio.

Your Porcelain Veneer Options

Based on the results of your consultation appointment, Dr. Polansky can recommend one of our two porcelain veneer options. For some patients, traditional veneers may be the best option. For others, minimal-prep veneers may be the more ideal choice.

The primary difference between the two is that traditional veneers require more preparation time and are placed permanently over the front of teeth. Minimal-prep veneers, on the other hand, require little to no preparation but can provide equally stunning results.

Are you ready to transform your smile? Call our Cherry Hill office today to schedule your first appointment with Dr. Polansky. We serve patients from Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and surrounding areas.

Did You Know Your Oral Health and Heart Health Are Connected?

The heart is a central focus of February because of Valentine’s Day. There’s quite a difference, though, between the red, decorative heart associated with love and the heart beating in our bodies. The heart as a vital organ, as opposed to a romantic symbol, is an important organ and one that, perhaps surprisingly, can be impacted by your oral health.

The trouble begins when built up plaque and bacteria create pockets between your teeth and gums. These pockets offer the very same bacteria and plaque an avenue to your bloodstream and, from there, other parts of your body.

All of which is why it’s so important to stay on top of your oral health. Through regular visits to Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill dental office, you can support your oral health and, as a result, support your heart’s health as well.

Which is not to say that gum disease prevention automatically leads to heart disease prevention.

The exact nature of their relationship is still a topic of debate, but the evidence more than indicates that a link does exist.

For questions about this link and what you can do to help your oral and overall health, give our Cherry Hill office a call today. Dr. Polansky is more than happy to help patients from Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and surrounding areas learn all they can about achieving optimal oral health.

Come into Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill Office This January for a Comprehensive Visit

In our last post we talk about making a resolution for your smile, which includes making regular visits a priority. And part of a regular visit is a comprehensive exam.

It’s no lie to say that Dr. Polansky wrote the book on comprehensive exams—his book, The Art of the Examination is required reading for students at both Dawson Academy and the Pankey Institute for Continuing Education.

When Dr. Polansky performs an oral exam, several things are checked for. First, we’ll check for signs of decay using our DIAGNOdent laser. DIAGNOdent is a great tool that lets us spot decay early, when treatment will be more comfortable for patients and allow us to conserve more of tooth’s natural structure.

The next phase of your January oral exam will include a look at your gum tissue. Poor gum health has been tired not just to gum disease but also to a range of health issues in the rest of the body, including: (more…)

Include Your Smile in Your New Year’s Resolutions!

When most people are putting together their New Year’s resolutions, you almost never hear someone say, “This year, I resolve to brush more,” or “This year, I resolve to visit my dentist twice a year for regular cleanings.”

But more patients might benefit from a resolution like this. When regular visits are combined with twice-daily brushing and flossing, bacteria and plaque—the two primary ingredients of tooth decay and gum disease—both have a difficult time building up between teeth and gums. And because a connection exists between bacteria/plaque buildup and health problems in other parts of the body, resolving to take better care of your smile helps your overall health, too, not just your smile.

Get Started Today

But there’s no reason you should have to wait for January to get started on your resolution. Call Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill office today to schedule your next checkup. You can also call us or browse our services page if you’d like to find out about any of the services Dr. Polansky offers. Our Cherry Hill dental office serves patients from Voorhees, Marlton, Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and surrounding areas.

Two Effective Sedation Dentistry Options from Dr. Polansky

Dental anxiety is a real condition that keeps many patients from seeking the regular care their smile needs. That’s why, at Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill office, we offer two safe, effective forms of sedation dentistry—nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. With these two sedation options, we can help patients eliminate anxiety and receive comfortable, stress-free care again, or for perhaps the first time ever.

Our Sedation Options

The first option for patients to consider is nitrous oxide. Better known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a nasal mask you’ll wear during your appointment. As you breathe in, this safe, effective gas will nurture feelings of warmth and safety that will last until we take your mask off.  Once your mask has been removed, you’ll feel like yourself again in a matter of minutes.

Non-Surgical TMJ Therapy from Dr. Polansky

You may go your whole day without thinking about your temporomandibular joints (TMJ), the small, triangular-shaped joints that help you open and close your mouth. But the same can’t be said if you happen to suffer from TMJ dysfunction.

Aside from causing jaw clicking and minor discomfort, TMJ dysfunction can also result in sharp pain in your temple, ears, neck, and shoulders. Moreover, TMJ dysfunction and teeth grinding, which can seriously damage tooth structure and pave the way for serious trouble down the road, are known to go hand-in-hand. But, at Dr. Polansky’s Cherry Hill office, TMJ dysfunction and teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) can be treated non-surgically with a custom made oral appliance.
